Winifred C. Michl, 101, of Oblong, IL passed away on Wednesday March 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.
Winifred was born on September 15, 1915 in Jasper County, Illinois to Dennis Hubert Brooks and Josephine Xavia (Helmling) Brooks. On January 30, 1940 she married Thadeus Valentine “T.V.” Michl who preceded her in death on November 11, 1994.
Winifred was a farm wife and worked at E.R. Moore in Newton, IL as a seamstress for many years. She was a member of the Newton High School Class of 1932 and member of the First Christian Church of Oblong. Winifred was very active in the community. She was 4-H Leader for many years, involved in the Jasper County Home Extension, 1st President of the Bend Community Club, Pricilla Circle, Chapter Mother of FHA and member of the Oblong Gem City Club. Winifred was also very active in her church, from vacation bible school, to working in the nursery. Even at the age of 98, Winifred still got down on the floor with her great grandchildren and was able to get up on her own. She also was able to pass her driver’s test at the age of 101. Winifred enjoyed quilting, flower gardening and crocheting.
Winifred is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Carolee and Buck Musgrave, Oblong, IL and Brenda and Bob Willis, Newton, IL; six grandchildren Tena and Ron Kay, Evansville, IN, Jeff and Cheryl Musgrave, Robinson, IL, Joe and Laura Willis, Leroy, IL Sarah Willis Chattanooga, TN and Rachel and Preston Johnson, Flora, IL and Buffy and Marcus Brooks, Newton, IL; eight great grandchildren Shelly Musgrave and Michael Blake, Yale, IL, Jay Dee Musgrave, Annapolis, IL, Ryan Kay, Evansville, IN, Rebecca Kay, Evansville, IN, Emma Brooks, Newton, IL, Isaiah Willis, Leroy, IL, Isabella Willis, Leroy, IL and Levi Johnson, Flora, IL. Winifred is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Winifred never met a stranger.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Earl and Cecil Brooks, two sisters Bernice Rogers and Ruby Fisher.
