Shirley Ann (York) Whitmer, 77,  of Oblong, IL. passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10:35 p.m. at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.

Born on July 1, 1936, in Ste. Marie Township, Jasper County, Illinois, she was the daughter of Carl L. and Mildred M (Herr) York.  Shirley was a member of the OHS Class of 1954; a lifelong homemaker; member of the EUM Church of Oblong; and a Morning Glories Home Extension Group.

On January 30, 1959, she married Mac Whitmer and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2008.  Shirley is survived by her 5 daughters and sons-in-laws: Jan and Charlie Miller, Lesa and Don Harper, Amy and Brian Maus, all of Oblong, IL.; Torrie and Ron Hays, Edmond, OK.; and DeAnn Smothers and Jeff Burner, Teutopolis, IL.; eight grandchildren: Justin and Amanda Miller, Oblong, IL.; Travis and Stacey Miller, Robinson, IL.; Devan and Michael Fuller, Palestine, IL.; Whitney Harper and Adam Dryer, Bloomington, IL.; Tanner and Krystal Hays, Edmond, OK.; Thad and Molly Hays, Tulsa, OK.; Ashley and Ryan Armstrong, Robinson, IL.; and Courtney Tolliver, Effingham, IL.; eight great-grandchildren: Grace Miller, Phoebe Miller, Kashen Fuller, Lorelai Hays, Tucker Hays, Payton Armstrong, LilliAnn Armstrong and Gabe Tolliver; her sister and brother-in-law, Karla and Gary Monroe, Sullivan, IN.; nephews, Jared Monroe; Shan and Ashley Monroe; great niece and nephew, Norah and Briggs Monroe; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Imogene York.
