Born in Crawford County, IL on May 25, 1924, he was the son of James Collier Stoltz and Cleo Verta (Messenger) Stoltz. Selvin enlisted in the U. S. Army on September 6, 1944 and served until August 7, 1946.  He started his overseas tour of duty in France during WWII driving a tank.  He entered Germany by crossing through the Rhine River.  There were no bridges, they literally crossed through the river.  As a member of the infantry he served in Kassel, Germany.  He served with the 1957 Labor Supervision Company as NCO, in charge of the motor pool.  He was awarded the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Bars, Army Occupation Medal Germany and Good Conduct Medal.  Selvin was very proud of being a veteran.

On October 12, 1946, he married Marjorie Jean Dickey.  They were married for 65 years until Jean’s death on April 26, 2012.  Selvin was employed by Refiners Transport of Robinson, IL for 33 years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong, IL for 55 years.

Selvin is survived by a daughter Sherilyn “Sherry” Tucker of Charleston, IL; granddaughter Heather (Tucker) and Heath Uppencamp of Mattoon, IL; great-grandson Braylon Uppencamp of Mattoon, IL; brother Norman and Darlene Stoltz of Oblong, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Selvin in death were his parents; wife; two brothers Marion and Herbert Stoltz; one sister Veva Carol (Stoltz) Edgington and a son-in-law Dean Tucker.

Selvin enjoyed reading his Bible, his white pickup truck, setting on the patio, having coffee with friends, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and hearing the funny things his great grandson Braylon said.  He loved living in Oblong and later enjoyed his new home at Timber Creek where he met many special friends and enjoyed weekly games of bingo.  Selvin will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
