Ruby “Fern” Haines, 93, Oblong, IL passed away on Monday October 17, 2016 at Arbor Rose in Robinson, IL.
Fern was born on June 12, 1923 in Jasper County to John and Henrietta (Kirts) Hanson. On September 8, 1945 she married Elza L. “Tinker” Haines who preceded her in death.
Fern and her husband owned Haines Limestone & Gravel Trucking in Oblong for many years. She was a member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219 Auxiliary. Fern enjoyed doing yard work such as mowing and raking. Throughout the years she also babysat many of the children in the Oblong area.
Fern is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Jay and Becky Haines, Oblong, IL; a daughter Cindy L. Haines and her companion Larry Newcomb. Two grandchildren Nathan and Amie Haines, Marshall, IL; Keshia Haines and Fiancé Justin Parkhurst, Robinson, IL and one Great Granddaughter Bria Grace Haines, Marshall, IL. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law Henry and Pauline Hanson, Oblong, IL and a sister Betty Bailey, Palestine, IL; Nieces and Nephews Pat Foltz, Phil Mendenhall, Sue Richardson and Steve Hanson.
Preceding Fern in death were her Parents, Husband, a sister Mildred Mendenhall and niece Joyce Murphy.
