CELEBRATION OF BOB’S LIFE SERVICE will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. with Bro. Randy Nave and Rev. Mick Laflin officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery, Greenup, IL. on Route 130.

Robert “Bob” Hill, age 88, of Oblong, IL passed from this life to his eternal home on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 6:45 a.m.

Bob was born on September 20, 1927 in rural Greenup, IL to Arthur Henry (Harry) and Lena (Hussey) Hill.  He was a member of Clear Creek Church and was saved as a boy and baptized in Hurricane Creek, rural Greenup, IL.  Bob attended Charleston High School.  He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948 and witnessed the testing of the atomic bomb at Bikini Island.

Bob married Joan Walters on February 2, 1952, and they were married until her death on November 27, 2009.  He retired as a foreman from L. S. Heath & Sons and then worked part-time as a courier for First Robinson Savings Bank.  He was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Oblong since 1959, V.F.W., Oblong American Legion Post #219, and the Robinson Saddle Club.  He enjoyed bowling, trail riding, traveling, camping, and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joan. Also, his parents Arthur Henry and Lena and Aunt Marianne (Hussey) Martin, all were born in England; a brother and sister-in-law Edward and Wanda Hill, and a brother-in-law, Max Walters.  He is survived by his daughters Melinda (Mindy) and Stanley Miller, Annapolis, IL and Sara and Bo Brotherton, Oblong, IL.  Four granddaughters and husbands, Jennifer (Miller) and Ben Drake, German Town Hills, IL, Crystal (Miller) and Cory Sheets, Annapolis, IL, Katie (Miller) and Justin Parker, Annapolis, IL and Nikki (Brotherton) and Matt Wimpelberg, Owensboro, KY; 6 great-grandchildren, Addison and Adam Drake, Isabel and Ilayna Sheets, and Owen and Brody Parker with a seventh great grand baby due December 6th; several nieces and cousins; a nephew and a special friend Dawn Ellen Tracy.
