Celebration of Lucy’s Life will be at 3:30 P.M. Sunday September 11, 2016 at the First Christian Church 206 North Range Street, Oblong, IL with Bro. Dee Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband Lloyd in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL.
The family asks that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the First Christian Church of Oblong, the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp, Flora, IL or the Oblong Children’s Christian Home, Oblong, IL. Lucy M. Mann, 94, Oblong, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:35 A.M. Thursday September 8, 2016 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL. with her family at her bedside.
Lucy was born in Oblong, IL on June 8, 1922. She was the daughter of Walter Warford and Ethel (Richards) Warford. On August 4, 1946, she married the love of her life Lloyd E. Mann who preceded her in death on March 17, 2015. They were married 68 years.
As a teen, Lucy worked at Wood’s Bakery and Burton’s Drug Store in Oblong, IL. She graduated from Oblong High School in 1940 and from Eastern Illinois Teacher’s College in 1944. Lucy taught at Hutsonville High School from 1944-1946. She then resumed teaching in 1962 at Oblong Grade School where she taught 2nd Grade for 22 years, retiring in 1984.Lucy was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong where she volunteered for several years in the church nursery and also taught a senior lady’s Sunday school class. Lucy and Lloyd delivered Meals on Wheels and delivered church papers to shut-ins and the elderly. Lucy loved God, her church, her children, grandchildren and great – grandchildren. She and Lloyd in later years loved to go to auctions and attend many of their grandchildren’s ball games.
Lucy is survived by three sons and daughters-in-laws, Gary and Carole Mann, Elberfeld, IN, Jim and Judy Mann, Flora, IL and Fred Mann, Mt. Vernon, IL; two daughters and a son-in-law Glenda Mann, Oblong, IL and Janie and Ray Piersall, Hutsonville, IL; 11 grandchildren Kris and Kim Mann, Jeff and Kelli Mann and Jennifer Mann all of Evansville, IN; Shanna and Matt Lotz, Brownsburg, IN; Jay Mann, Nashville, TN; Luke and Jessica Mann, La Vergne, TN; Caleb Piersall, League City, TX; Lesley and Joshua Butcher, League City, TX; Nathan and Heidi Piersall, Redding, CA; Jonathan and Monica Piersall, Santa Maria, CA and Stephen and Elizabeth Piersall, Pearland, TX; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty Alumbaugh, Indianapolis, IN and a niece Jolly Piersall, Indianapolis, IN.
Preceding Lucy in death were her parents; husband; and her three brothers Art, Glen and an infant boy Courtland Warford.
