Loren Cox, 88, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Willow Hill, Illinois, died about 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his residence.  Loren was born on November 7, 1925, in Oblong Township, Crawford County, Illinois to the late Freeman and Mary (Lockhart) Cox.  He married Marilyn J. Waid on September 4, 1948 in Oblong, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on May 9, 1986.

He was a veteran of the Navy and served from 1941-1944 on the LST 743.  He received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon 3 Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 Star, and World War 2 Victory Ribbon. Loren was employed by Marathon Oil Company for 34 years having retired in 1984.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing for most of his life.

Loren is survived by three daughters, Janell (Michael) Beach, Stone, England; Brenda Cox, Roanoke, IL.; and Marla Carroll, Peoria, IL.; two grandchildren, Colin Beach, Phoenix, AZ. and Andrea Beach, London, England; one sister-in-law, Lola Cox, Casey, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers, Rex, Ova, Loy, Guy, Clem and one sister, Elsie Wiley.
