A casual gathering of family and friends to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 at the St. Valentine Hall, rural Jasper County, IL. from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

John H. Miller, 83, of Oblong, IL. John passed away at 9:13am on Wednesday June 14, 2017 in Robinson, IL.

John was born in Jasper County, IL on August 24, 1933 to Joseph C. and Mayme V. (Flynn) Miller. On June 8, 1957 he married Betty E. McCleave who preceded him in death on March 26, 2003.

John was a carpenter and a painter. He loved to go fishing, listen to Bluegrass and old country western music, and going metal detecting. He was a great storyteller. His family and neighbors referred to him as the Sheriff of McMillerville.

John is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Johnny and Debi Miller, Oblong, IL, Mike and Kathy Miller, Cannelton, IN, and Gary and Diana Miller Oblong, IL; six grandchildren Darby and Kyle Dishong, Oblong, IL, Danielle and Jonathon Acree, Robinson, IL, Samantha and Chris Wakefield, Marshall, IL, Jacob Miller, Princeton, IN, Elizabeth Miller, Cannelton, IN, and Michael Miller, Cannelton, IN; four great- grandchildren Jackson and Declan Wakefield, Hayes Dishong and Hudson Miller. John is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law Dave and Carol Miller, Oblong, IL; one sister and brother-in-law Catherine and Bill McCleave, Oblong, IL and sister-in law Sharon Miller, Bend Area, along with several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty E. Miller, infant twin brother Joseph Miller, infant sister Margarita Miller and Brother Otis Miller.
