Joan Russell, 83, of Oblong, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:07 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was residing at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.
Born on December 17, 1931 in Robinson, IL. she was the daughter of Edward “Ed” Fritz and Hattie (Watts) Fritz. On August 19, 1956 she married Robert V. “Bob” Russell and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2009.
Joan was a 1949 graduate of Oblong High School; a graduate of Indiana Business College, Terre Haute, IN.; a graduate of Varner’s Beauty School, Paris, IL.; formerly employed with Hulman and Company of Terre Haute, IN. for many years, Joan was the secretary to the sales manager; and was previously employed at Harmon’s Drug Store, Oblong, IL. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oblong for over 50 years. She enjoyed needlework, especially embroidering as well as being a mother and housewife.
Joan is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law John Edward and Deborah “Debbie” Russell and James William and Kim Russell, all of Oblong, IL.; six grandchildren and spouses: Robert and Melinda Russell, Rose Hill, IL.; George and Gail Russell, Emmie Jo and James Liddle, William Ova Russell, Lucas Donnal Russell, Clara Jean Russell, all of Oblong; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece Paula Pavia of Dallas, TX; a nephew Alan Miller of Bartlesville, OK; along with several nieces and nephews on Bob’s side of the family.
Preceding Joan in death were her parents; her husband; twin sister, Jean Fritz; her sister Maxine and brother-in-law Floyd Miller.
