Estel Lucille McKnight, 94, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 11:12 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Heritage Health Center, Robinson, Illinois.
Estel was born in Crawford County, Illinois near Palestine, Illinois on June 6, 1919 and was the daughter of Charles Daughtery and Grace (Higgins) Daughtery. On September 13, 1936, she married Orvie Lee McKnight Sr. who died on April 4, 1986. Estel worked on the candy line at L. S. Heath & Sons for many years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Oblong and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening as well as crafting.
Estel is survived by two sons Orvie “Lee” McKnight Jr. of Demotte, Indiana and John McKnight of Oblong, Illinois and one granddaughter; and one sister, Helen Boyles of Gary, Indiana.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son Dana Ray McKnight in 1975 and two sisters, Lula Harding and Eleanor Hetzler.
It was Estel’s wish that her body be cremated and that there be no visitation and no service. She will be buried next to her son and husband in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
