VISITATION: 4~7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong.
FUNERAL MASS: 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Oblong. Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery.

Edith E. Smith, 78, Oblong, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Magnolia Center, Robinson, IL.
Edith was born on December 23, 1935 in Frommersbach, Germany, and was the daughter of Peter Berger and Katharina (Koerner) Berger. On November 22, 1960 she married Jerry D. Smith, who survives.
Edith was a language teacher to the Military and for many years was a loan officer at First National Bank of Oblong, IL retiring in 1999. Edith was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong, IL; member of the Oblong Century Club; board member for both Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Oblong Food Pantry for many years. She loved the time that she and Jerry spent with their family.
Edith is survived by her husband Jerry D. Smith, Oblong, IL; two daughters and a son-in-law Karin Smith, Springfield, IL and Sandy and Ed Lex, Springfield, IL; four grandchildren Adam, Lydia, Jared and Meredith Lex all of Springfield, IL; her family in Germany, Magdalena Berger, Edith Rommelfanger, Franz-Josef and Hildegunde Koerner and Tona Koerner; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mike and Barb Smith, Martinsville, IL, Paul and Diana Smith, Mitchell, IN, and Bob and Vevalee Smith, Atwood, IL; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents and two brothers Robert and Theo Berger.
