Christina R. “Teena” DeVries, 63, Oblong, IL, passed away at 3:45 P.M. Friday October 7, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN, after a valiant and courageous battle against cancer.
Teena was born May 25, 1953 in Robinson, IL and was the daughter of Paul Eugene Perkins and Wanda Mae (Miller) Perkins. On May 11, 1991 she married the love of her life and best friend, David H.R. DeVries who survives.
Teena was a member of the Oblong High School Class of 1971 and shortly thereafter, began her family. Teena worked as a cashier at the Oblong Food Center intermittently during this time. Teena later returned to college and graduated from Lincoln Trail College in 1990 with a Nursing Degree, achieving her life-long dream of being a Registered Nurse. Teena waited tables at her parent’s restaurant during this time to help raise her girls and go to college. Teena began her professional career at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL as a Registered Nurse and then as Director of Nursing. She then worked as a RN on the 6th medical floor and as a Case Manager/Utilization Review Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN for 11 years. In 2006, Teena achieved her Certification in Case Management. Teena completed the last 8 years of her career as a Utilization Review Nurse at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL until her health forced her to stop working.
Teena’s passion was her desire to care for people, improve care and ‘to do the right thing’ for her patients. In her free time, Teena enjoyed festivals, shopping, and decorating for the holidays, especially Halloween. Above all else, Teena loved sharing time with her family, especially her grandchildren who became the joys of her life.
Teena is survived by her husband David DeVries, Oblong, IL; 3 daughters and a son-in-law Jill Sanders, Newton, IL, Mandy and Jason Littlejohn, Oblong, IL, and Christen Sanders, Oblong, IL; 6 grandchildren Levi Steinman, Jadon Littlejohn, Kalin Littlejohn, Lakin Littlejohn, Abrianna Mae Foster and Harper Reynolds, and several others who touched her heart and often called her ‘Grandma’; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Jeanne Perkins, Michigan City, IN; sister Penny Craig, Flat Rock, IL; niece and nephew Jamie and Chris Ochs, Willow Hill, IL; grand-niece Peighton Arnone and grand-nephew Xander Ochs; and sister-in-law Heather Talley, Birds, IL.
Preceding Teena in death were her parents, a son-in-law Carlin Steinman, mother-in-law Jill DeVries, and brother-in-law Jon Talley.
