Aurbury Chester Workman, 88, Oblong, IL., formerly of Robinson, IL. and Petersburg, IN., passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, IL.
Born May 9, 1925, in Bicknell, Indiana, he was the son of Benjamin Harrison Workman and Ella Mae (Thompson) Workman. On December 22, 1945, he married Mary “Maxine” Jenkins who survives.
Aurbury was a United State Marine Veteran serving in World War II where he received 2 Purple Hearts. He retired on October 20, 1972 as an Engineering Equipment Operator for the Public Works Dept. of Transportation Division Operations Branch at Crane Navel Base, Crane, IN. He also worked as a Park Manager for Montgomery, IN. as well as Prides Creek Park in Petersburg, IN. While living in Florida he worked at a furniture retail store. Aurbury was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Robinson and the Porterville Christian Church. He was a Life Member of the Crawford County V.F.W. Post #4549; DAV in Bradington, Fl.; and the Ruritan Club of Montgomery, IN. He enjoyed fishing, hunting but most of all the time he spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife Mary “Maxine” Workman of Oblong, IL; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Della Workman of Oblong, IL; three daughters and two sons-in-laws Joretta Teboe of Anderson, IN.; Nancy and Vernon Knepp of Montogmery, IN.; and Joyce and Leven May of Moore Haven, Fl; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-0grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Aurbury in death were his parents; daughter Anita June Workman; two brothers, Charles and Doyle Workman; and three sisters Luvina A., Beatrice and Bessie Workman.
Military rites at the funeral home will be conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219 and Military rites at the Martin Cemetery, near Glezen, IN. will be conducted by Petersburg, Indiana V.F.W. Post #3587.
