Richard R. Thornton, 60, Eureka, MO and formerly of Oblong, IL passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at his residence. Born in Oblong, Illinois on February 9, 1949, he was the son of Richard Roland Thornton and Agnes Marie Belgarde. He was a graduate of Oblong High School ~ Class of 1968. Richard graduated in 1973 from Pharmacy School in St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed as a pharmacist for several years working for Walgreens and later for St. Louis Comprehensive Health Care Center until his health did not allow him to work. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong and St. Louis Botanical Gardens. His hobbies included buying antiques, flowers, gardening and adopting animals.

Richard is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Norma & Kenneth Richards; half brother, Donald & Becky Thornton and two nephews, Ronnie & Jenny Evans and Dale Evans.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; special aunt and uncle, Norma & Millard Mikeworth; and his grandmother, Bessie Gail Thornton.
