Saturday, July 24, 2010 ~ White Oak Church, Rural Oblong, IL Memorials: Oblong Schools Academic Foundation ~ Envelopes at or may be mailed to the Funeral Home Mary Alta Baker Miller, 88, Yale, Illinois passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, IL. Born January 22,1922, in Jasper County, rural Yale area, she was the daughter of Robert Isam Baker and Pearl (Wiman) Baker. She retired in 1987 from Hutton's Parts Service in Casey, Illinois after 28 years service as a bookkeeper and office manager. She was a member of the White Oak Christian Church, rural Oblong; member and past President of Yale PTO; Yale Women's Club; Newton BPW; Jasper County Historic & Genealogical Society; Rose Hill Household Science Club; Jasper County American Legion Auxiliary; White Oak Ladies Fellowship; Grandville Home Extension; Oblong Christian Food Pantry Board Member; served as a teacher, pianist,deaconess and church clerk at White Oak Christian Church; served as a 4-H leader for 18 years; editor of Our Heritage (Jasper County Genealogy Newspaper) since 1983. Mary was a graduate of Oblong High School - Class of 1940 and Terre Haute Commercial College in 1941. On November 16, 1941, she married Walter McKnight Miller, he preceded her in death on January 1, 1978. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Jerry Lee Miller; one daughter, Elaine Louise Miller and one brother, Paul O. Baker. Mary is survived by on son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. & Karen Miller; two daughters and son-in-law, Roberta A. & Edward Laundy and Carol I. Miller; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James I. & Joyce Baker, Earl C. & Leah Baker and Warren G. & Janice Baker; one sister, Lela Smith; several nieces, nephews and cousins. |
