Bernadine Calvert, 90, Oblong, IL passed away at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Lakeland Health Care Center, Effingham, IL. Born in Oblong, IL on December 6, 1919, she was the daughter of Frank Smith and Florence (Henry) Smith. She was employed with Marathon Oil Company as an office clerk and later for Harmon's Drug Store, Oblong. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother for Cub Scouts; served as a Oblong Township Trustee and Cemetery Board Trustee. In her younger years Bernadine played softball - playing outfield and 3rd base. She enjoyed her bus trips and traveling; listening to high school bands; watching girls softball and youth soccer. Bernadine was a staunch democrat.

On June 3, 1944, she married Fred Calvert who preceded her in death on December 2, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents and baby son, Craig Calvert in 1946.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Darlene Calvert; two grandchildren, Angie & Greg Spillman and Brent & Renea Calvert; four great-grandchildren, Aly & Austin Spillman and Logan & Madison Calvert.

Officating the funeral service will be Bro. Don Houdasheldt. Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL.
