Tim Brooks, 50, Oblong, Illinois, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Friday morning June 11, 2010 at his home after a battle with cancer. Tim was born July 26, 1959, in Robinson, Illinois and was the son of Lester D. Brooks and Juanita (Wheeler) Brooks. On January 14, 1984 he married Darla K. Dunlap who survives. Tim was the Sports Editor for the Robinson Daily News for 15 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong, IL. Tim, coached girls softball at Oblong High School and Junior High for 10 years, Lincoln Trail Junior College and Robinson High School Junior Varsity Softball for one year each. He umpired for many years in girl’s softball. At the age of 13, Tim started with Norm’s Aces Women Softball Team in Robinson, IL. as a scorekeeper and wrote articles about the team for the newspaper. Tim was an Assistant Softball Coach at Greenville College and was inducted into the Greenville College Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He was a member of the Illinois High School Association and was a former Youth leader for the First Baptist Church, Robinson, Illinois. Tim enjoyed writing and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Illini and the Chicago Bears.
 
Tim is survived by his wife Darla; mother – Juanita Brooks; two sons Jacob and Matthew Brooks; daughter and son-in-law Sarah & Michael Culter; one grandson- Keegan Culter; two sisters and a brother- in- law Cyndi & Sandy Cornett and Valerie Brooks and partner Jeff Wallin; father-in-law and mother-in-law Byrl & Betty Dunlap: several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
 
Preceding him in death are his father Lester Brooks; grandparents Harlan & Mabel Wheeler and Ky & Cleone Brooks.
 
Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Newton, Illinois at a later date.
