Dixie Best Born in Lawrence County, Illinois on April 13, 1937, she was the daughter of Charles “Dale” Hepner and Pauline (Lewis) Hepner. She was a graduate of Robinson High School ~ Class of 1955. She was employed as a CNA at Hart’s Convalescent Center, Oblong and later for Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong. Dixie was a care giver to many people for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong. She was baptized on March 18, 1973. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, sewing and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 15, 1956, she married Claude “Jake” Best Jr., who preceded her in death on April 5, 1988. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother Harry Hepner; and one son-in-law: Dennis Smith. Dixie is survived by one son, Denny Best; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah & Richard Baker, Diana & Ed Davis and Dorinda Sue Smith; eight grandchildren, Deborah Lee & Zach McNair, Cassandra Fay Baker and Matthew Baker, Edward Davis, John Davis, Sarah & William Benton, Kyla Smith and Jody Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Addison McNair, Kyrton McNair, Lisa Henery, Keaton Davis, Dustin Irwin, Jasper Irwin, Brandy Benton and Morgan Benton; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert “Bob” & Sue Hepner, Jerry & Kathy Hepner, Arthur & Nancy Hepner and Don Hepner; two sisters and brother-in-law, Cleo Lawson and Dorothy Ann & Don Sanger; one aunt: Dottie Hart and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois. |
