Ervan Eugene "Gene" Beals, 74, Oblong, IL passed away at 8:35 a.m. E.S.T. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. Born in Huntington, West Virginia on April 15, 1935, he was the son of Virgil Beals and Pearl (Hadley) Beals. Gene's parents died when he was young and he was raised by his grandparents Vince & Myrtle Beals in Yale, IL. He was a graduate of Newton Community High School ~ Class of 1953. He was a caster at Briggs Pottery in Robinson, IL retiring in 2000. After his retirement Gene worked for Stewart Security, Robinson, IL. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Oblong. Gene helped with the formation of Boy Scout Troop #265 in Oblong as well as serving as a Scout Master. Gene also helped form the girls softball league in Oblong and served as a coach. Gene enjoyed traveling, eating out, collecting clocks and listening to classical music.

On May 16, 1954, he married Treva Blankenbeker, who survives. Also surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Rusty Eugene & Kim Beals; one daughter and son-in-law, Joey & Victor Perez; five grandchildren, Charity & James Herda, Adriel & Ted Koller, Victoria, Sabrina and Travis Perez; two great-grandchildren, Jaylen and Madden Perez; one brother and sister-in-law, Don & Freda Beals; and seveal nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kevin L. Beals on April 2, 2003.

Rev. Howard Bell will officiate the funeral service with burial in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, rural Annapolis, Illinois.
