Richard R. Thornton, 60, Eureka, Missouri and formerly of Oblong passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at his residence. Born in Oblong on February 9, 1949, he was the son of Richard Roland Thornton and Agnes Marie Belgarde. He was a graduate of Oblong High School ~ Class of 1968. Graduated Pharmacy School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1973. He was a pharmacist for Walgreen's and later at St. Louis Comprehensive Health Center, St. Louis for over 20 years until his health did not allow him to work. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong; and St. Louis Botanical Gardens. His hobbies included buying antiques; flowers; gardening and adopting animals.

Richard is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Norma & Kenneth Richards; half-brother, Donald & Becky Thornton; two nephews, Ronnie & Jenny Evans and Dale Evans.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; special aunt and uncle, Norma & Millard Mikeworth; and a grandmother, Bessie Gail Thornton.

Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
