Frances A. "Fannie" Roberts, 86, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at her residence in Oblong. Born on March 20, 1923, in Jasper County in the Newton area, she was the daughter of George Dewey Houser and Edythe Marie Romack. She was a graduate of Newton High School ~ Class of 1941. She was a receptionist for Marshall Funeral Home, Oblong and also a seamstress for many years. Fannie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and a friend to all. Fannie was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong; pianist at many area churches; Oblong Schools Academic Foundation; Campfire Leader; Oblong PTA; supporter of Oblong School activities as well as Albion, El Paso & New Hebron Christian School for her grandchildren; former member of Oak Glenn Golf Course; original Ruritan Club & Oblong American Legion Post #219 Auxiliary; and Newton Bowling League for several years. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing & she was a mentor for many young people through the years.

On July 7, 1941, she married Charles "Chick" Roberts, who preceded her in death on November 2, 1992. Also preceding her in death were her parents; and one granddaughter, Melisa Sparks.

She is survivied by one son, William "Bill" Roberts; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Roberts, Diana & LeRoy Sparks, Linda & Frank Hill and Marsha & Bill Kinsey; ten grandchildren, Christi & Rick Lawson, Angelia (Sparks) & Dave Wantroba, Molly & Chad Mohr, Rachel Kinsey, Jacob Kinsey, Ethan Hill, Rebecca Kinsey, Isaac Hill, Ben Kinsey and Chandra Sparks; one great-grandson, Declan Mohr; and three sisters-in-law, Doris "Pop" Wilson, Juanita Lindsey & Betty Cunningham.

Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois.
