Joan Hill, 78, Oblong, passed away peacefully at 2:05 a.m. Friday November 27, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, following a period of declining health.

Joan was born April 11, 1931, in Oblong, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth H. & Mary A. (Michael) Walters. She married Bob Hill, February 2, 1952, who survives. She was an Elementary School Teacher for 31 years before retiring in 1991. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, attended Prairie Elementary School, graduated from Oblong Township High School in the Class of 1948 and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL in 1968. She also attended Lincoln Trail College, Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN and the University of Illinois in Champaign. Joan sang in the choirs at Lincoln Trail College, Eastern Illinois University and Central United Methodist Church.  Camping, trail riding, traveling and writing poetry were hobbies she enjoyed. She was also a member of the saddle club, Lincoln Trail College EPOCH (writing) Organization and a life member of Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association.

Joan is survived by her husband Bob Hill; 2 daughter and sons-in-laws, Mindy and Stanley Miller and Sara and Bo Brotherton; 4 granddaughters and spouses Jennifer and Ben Drake, Crystal and Cory Sheets, Katie and Justin Parker and Nikki Brotherton; 4 great grandchildren Addison and Adam Drake and Isabel and Ilayna Sheets and a brother Loren Walters and several nieces and a nephew.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents.

Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery Route 130 north of Greenup, IL.
