John A. "Corndog" Griffin, 38, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 6:30 a.m. EDT, Friday, August 21, 2009, from injuries sustained in a auto accident in Knox County, Indiana. Born on May 6, 1971, in Evansville, Indiana he was the son of John Alan Griffin and Joyce Ellen (Wampler) Griffin. He was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 157 as a Journeyman Steamfitter. He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ, Robinson, Illinois; Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #384; Sons of American Legion Post #219, Oblong; Palestine Eagle's Lodge; Robinson Moose Lodge; Illinois A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) Association for Bikers. He loved spending time with his kids and watching Alex & Kristina play sports; riding his Harley; shooting his guns; he was a Civil War buff; loved to read; he was learning Latin and had already learned Spanish so he could communicate with workers.

On September 19, 1990, he married Jennifer Faye Allen, who survivies. Also surviving are his parents, John & Joyce Griffin; two sons, Paul Adam Griffin and Alexander Michael Griffin; one daughter, Kristina Delaney Griffin; his mother-in-law, Ruth Allen; his father-in-law, Ethan & Janet Allen; three brothers and sister-in-law, Staff Sgt. Jacob Andrew & Tiffany Griffin, James Aaron Griffin and Joseph Allen Griffin; one sister and brother-in-law, Jessica Ellen & Ken Burgard; grandmothers, Martha Ellen Wampler and Janet Harris; sister-in-law, Rebecca & Dean Roberts; four nieces; six nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

John is preceded in death by his grandfather, Lloyd Wampler; three cousins: Loren B. Dart, Nicolas A. Wampler and Keith L. Wampler.

Shane Bopp will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
