Donald L. "Steve" Earlewine, 87, Oblong, Illinois went home to be with his heavenly father Monday, August 31, 2009, at 7:05 p.m. at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois. Born on April 22, 1922, in Bellair, Illinois, he was the son of Jonathan Charles Earlewine and Nellie Louise (Perdieu) Earlewine. He was delivered into this world by Dr. Ferguson, who commented at his birth that he just looked like a Steve. Most of his friends and family know him as Steve. He served in the U. S. Army during W. W. II. He was employed with Forrest Oil Company as an oilfield worker; later for Victor Dana in Robinson as a die setter until his retirement at the age of 62 in 1984; he also farmed. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong; Casey American Legion; and Robinson Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all his family. He was a life long St. Louis Cardinal fan and he was able to attend ball games in both the old and new stadium.

On January 3, 1948, he married Virginia Tracy who survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charley & Carol Earlewine and David L. & Debbie Earlewine; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & David Goodwin; ten grandchildren, Jana & Steve Hanagan, Kevin & Tina Goodwin, Brad & Kristina Goodwin, Damon Earlewine, Daron & Julie Earlewine, Stacey & Joe Burgess, Matt & Brandy Jenkins, Marcus Jenkins, Jay Dee Rice and Kimberly & Clayton Bashum; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Cummins; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leah & Earl Baker, Jo Ann & Bob Tracy and Reba Stephens; several nieces and nephews; and special care giver Jalyne Goss.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; two brothers-in-law George Cummins and Major Stephens and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marion & Donna Miller.

David Earlewine and Daron Earlewine will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in Oblong Cemeter, Oblong, Illinois.
