Olen L. “Chappy” Chapman, 78, of Oblong, Illinois passed away Friday November 13, 2009 at 5:31 P.M. at Crawford Memorial Hospital Robinson, Illinois. He was born December 28, 1930 in Hougetown in Clark County, Illinois. He was the son of Elzie Chapman and Hazel (Goodwin) Chapman. On April 9, 1950 Chappy married Doris Joan Johnson who survives. He worked for Marathon Oil Company retiring in 1986 as a gang pusher. Chappy served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Seed Chapel Church rural Oblong; Graduate of Casey High School Class of 1949; Oblong American Legion Post #219; Llewelleen Gun Dog Association; Quails Unlimited; Oblong Masonic Lodge #644 AF & AM. Chappy enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, raising dogs and especially watching his grandsons in their sporting activities. He is survived by is wife Doris; daughter and son-in-law Pam & Greg Baker; two grandsons Andrew & Kelly Baker and Ross Baker; sister Roberta Cunningham as well as nieces; nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219. |
