Saturday March 14, 2009 - Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL Memorials: First Christian Church, Oblong, IL Military Rites: Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Oblong American Legion Post #219 Ralph W. Carroll, 86, Robinson, Illinois passed away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at his residence. Born in Oblong, Illinois on February 13, 1923, he was the son of John Wesley Carroll and Leola Mae (Henry) Carroll. He served with the U. S. Army during W. W. II. He worked for steel mills in Gary, Indiana and later for Halliburton as a mechanic for 35 years, retiring September 20, 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong; Oblong American Legion Post #219 and Crawford County V. F. W. Post #4549. He enjoyed working on cars and swinging in his swing at home. On June 9, 1949, he married Florence Louise King, who survives. Also surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, John W. & Debbie Carroll; one grandson, Shawn Carroll; one sister, Marie E. Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earnest Carroll and one sister, Bernice Vance. Burial will be in the Prairie Cememtery, rural Oblong, Illinois. |
