Margaret Anne Schalasky, 83, rural Oblong, Illinois, The Bend area passed away at 12:20 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008, at her residence. Born on May 23, 1925, in The Bend area, Jasper County, she was the daughter of Joseph Ochs and Margaret Rennier Ochs. She was a homemaker. In 1946 she moved to Harrisburg and then later moved back to The Bend area in 1961. She was a member of the St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church, Ste. Marie, IL and also attended St. Valentine Catholic Church, rural Jasper County; Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932 Auxiliary; 508th Paratrooper Association Auxiliary; she was a mother to many people thoughout her life. She was an avid gardener; enjoyed cooking, canning and reading.

On July 13, 1946, she married George A. Schalasky, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Margaret Schalasky; two brothers, Daniel & Valentine Ochs & one infant brother; six sisters, Irene Freeman, Beatrice Seiler, Winifred Delinck, Florentine Procknow, Leona Roth & Mary Kraus; and one great-granddaughter, Abbygail Harp.

She is survived by eight sons and daughters-in-law, Francis & Ann Schalasky, Walter & Linda Schalasky, George & Karan Schalasky, Thomas & Kimberly Schalasky, David & Jean Schalasky, Daniel & Darnell Schalasky, Joseph & LouAnna Schalasky and John & Bonnie Schalasky; four daughters and sons-in-law, Eva & Paul Hahn, Mary Anne & Jerry Davis, Rose & Robert "Bob" Gangloff and Ruth Anne & Louis Costa; thirty-eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in St. Valentine Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois.
