Emma C. Rhyne, 93, Oblong, Illinois, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, IL. She was born on August 8, 1914, rural Oblong (Jasper County), IL. Emma was the daughter of John Russell and Perlina Frances (Parker) Russell. She was employed three years as a cook at the English Inn, Albion, IL; retired cook at the Hi-Way Cafe, Oblong, for 17 years and retired manager of Jay's Laundry in Robinson, IL in 1977. Emma was a Charter Member of the First Baptist Church in Oblong, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was very active in the Church. She enjoyed quilting. Emma graduated from Oblong Township High School - Class of 1932. On October 29, 1933, she married Leland Dale Rhyne, who preceded her in death on June 12, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, John F.; three sisters, Florence Lavada, Laura Frances and an infant sister; five brothers, Hugh, George, John Henry, Albert and an infant brother; one grandson, Micheal D. Smith; one step-grandson, Clinton Centers; one step-granddaughter, Barbara Hall; and one step-great-grandson, Tracy Duane Hall. Emma is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara E. & Leroy Smith and Ruth A. & Duane Centers; one daughter-in-law, Alice Rhyne; 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren; 3 great-great- grandchildren, and 11 step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert V. & Joan Russell; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Piper and Joyce Brandts; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Berlin Cemetery, rural Oblong, Illinois. |
