Roland R. "Ron" Welsh, 70, Oblong, passed away at 12:25 A. M. Thursday, October 18, 2007, at his residence. Born on October 4, 1937, in Flora, Illinois, he was the son of Walter R. Welsh and Evelyn G. Hunley. He was employed 33 years as a high school teacher, football coach, track coach and in his early years as a basketball coach, 26 of those years with Oblong High School - retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong; Robinson Elks; avid golfer at Quail Creek Country Club; Illinois High School Football Association; Inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 7, 1990. He did his undergraduate studies at S.I. U. - Carbondale; and received his Masters from E. I. U. - Charleston, IL.

On February 7, 1959, he married Dorothy A. "Dot" Boos, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. & Candy Welsh, Bill W. & Susie Welsh and Thomas P. & Amanda Welsh; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet R. & Ron Mitchell and Deanne M. & Craig Weatherford; 11 grandchildren, Sydney & Sam Mitchell; Michelle Shaffer; Danielle White; Whitney & Carleigh Welsh; Derek & David Hester; Gavin Weatherford; Ashley Schnizlein and Brady Welsh; 6 great-grandchildren, Blaze & Breeze Shaffer, Christian, Leighanna & Kaitlyn Schnizlein and Destiny Hester; sister, Eleanor Staley; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leonard & Pauline Boos; brothers-in-law, Jim & Ruth Boos and Steve & Lottie Boos; sisters-in-law, Sister Jane Boos and Kathy & Bill Fearday; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Letty Homan.

Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
