Mervin Wayne Tracy, 78, Oblong, Illinois, passed away on Saturday December 29, 2007 at his residence. Wayne was born on December 28, 1929 in Robinson Township in Crawford County Illinois. He was the son of James Wylie Tracy and Opal Florence (Taylor) Tracy. On January 21, 1951, he married Dawn Ellen Kirk. Wayne worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company for 38 ½ years as a Combination Man retiring on January 1, 1987. He also farmed for many years. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Crawford County V.F.W. Post 4549. He was a member of first Christian Church in Oblong were he served as a Deacon for many years. He was a graduate of Oblong High School in 1947 and was a member of the Hi Way Café Coffee Club. Wayne enjoyed mushroom hunting, hunting, mowing, gardening, being outdoors and traveling to watch his children and grandchildren in their different activities.

Wayne is survived by his wife Dawn Ellen; one daughter and son-in-law Deb & Dan Martinie; three sons and daughters-in-laws Robin & Jan Tracy, Kit & Tami Tracy and Derek & Gina Tracy; twelve grandchildren Cyrus & Erin McMains, Robert & Courtney McMains, Melissa & Daniel Stuedemann, K. C. & Luke Reardon, Taylor McMains, Kate Martinie, Jarod Tracy, Jacqueline Tracy, Brennan Tracy, Jade Tracy, Shad Tracy and Jacob Tracy; two step grandchildren Ryan Martinie and Becky & Jason Spradlin; two great grandchildren Tessa McMains and Mathias McMains; two step grandchildren Anninias Spradlin and Kylannah Spradlin; one brother and four sisters-in-laws LeRoy & Barbara Tracy, Audrey Tracy, Patricia Tracy, and Melster Tracy; several nieces and nephews and four brothers-in-laws & five sisters-in-laws Judy Kirk, Noel & Rose Kirk, Keith & Bev Kirk, Gene & Janet Kirk and Karen & Don Russell.

Wayne's parents, three brothers Paul, Earl and Clarence Tracy as well one sister Helen Cruzen preceded him in death.

Wayne will not only be missed as a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandparent, but also as a thoughtful, caring neighbor and friend. Wayne loved his immediate and extended family and showed it by his generosity and continuous acts of kindness. He will be missed.

Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219.
