Russell H. “Rus” Richards, 84, rural Robinson, passed away Thursday May 19, 2005 at 3:30 A.M. in the Long Term Care Unit of Crawford Memorial Hospital. He was born April 7, 1921 in Hunt City Township Jasper County, Illinois and was the son of George Richards & Flora (Anderson) Richards. On February 22, 1941 he married Mary Osborn and on November 5, 1973 Rus married Suzanne York. Rus worked as a farmer all his life. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII and a member of Hardinville United Church, Hardinville, Illinois. For many of his young adult life he helped with the M.Y.F. at Prairie Church rural Oblong. Rus was a member of the E. M. Coulter American Legion Post #69 – Robinson, V. F. W. Post # 4549 – Robinson, IL, Crawford County Farm Bureau, Crawford County Fair Board, Robinson Elks Lodge #1188. His hobbies included quail hunting, trap shooting and tractor pulling,

Rus is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-laws, Ed & Barb Richards and Jeff & Vera Richards; 3 daughters and sons-in-laws Barbara & Doyle Purcell, Yvonna & Jeremy Dunlap, Melissa & Clifford Kocher; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; 1 brother & sister –in-law Dean & Georgia Richards; as well as several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one brother Roy Richards, one sister Irene Newkirk and one grandson Kasey Tracy all preceded Russell in death.


Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery with military rights by E. M. Coulter American Post #69 and V.F.W. Post # 4549, both of Robinson.
