Leonard I. "Shad" Kirk, 96, rural Oblong, Illinois, died Monday April 4, 2005 at his daughter's residence, rural Oblong, Illinois. Leonard was born on April 13, 1908 in Oblong Township, Crawford County, Illinois and was the son of Smith and Jeannette "Nettie" (McCracken) Kirk. On September 30, 1928 he married Effie I. (Matheny) and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2001. Leonard was a farmer and horticulturist - he owned his own orchard (apples, peaches, pears and plums) south of Oblong. Leonard was a member of the First Christian Church in Oblong where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau, Oblong High School Class of 1925. Leonard loved to hunt, fish, gardening, and he sold chicken eggs. Leonard never missed a Fall Follies Halloween Parade in Oblong.

Leonard is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Noel & Rose Kirk, Keith & Bev Kirk and Gene & Janet Kirk; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn & Wayne Tracy and Karen & Donald Russell; one daughter-in-law, Judy Kirk; thirty grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Leonard is preceded by his parents; wife; one son: David Kirk; one daughter and son-in-law: Reba & Henry Traylor Sr.; three grandsons: Todd Russell, Lance E. Kirk & Tony Kirk; three brothers: Hayden, Charles & Willie Kirk and two sisters: Nellie Kirk and Mabel Roe.

Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois
