Howard D. Tuel 78, Oblong, Illinois died Sunday May 18, 2003 at Crawford
Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois. He was born September 22, 1924
in Oblong, Illinois and was the son of Wesley Lee Tuel and Blanche (Wilson)
Tuel. On October 16, 1943, he married Mary Jane Rush, who preceded him
in death on February 27, 1991. Howard was employed at the Robinson Pottery,
as a janitor at the Oblong High School and First Christian Church in
Oblong. He retired as a rural letter carrier for the Oblong Post Office
in 1987. Howard, an Army veteran of WWII was involved in the Normandy
Invasion. He also served in Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe
and the European African Middle Eastern Theater, earning four Bronze
Battle Stars. He graduated from Oblong High School in 1942. Howard was
a member of the Oblong Gem City Club and Oblong American Legion Post
#219. His hobbies included fishing and gardening.
Howard is survived by a son Howard Lee Tuel; brother and sister-in-law
Kermit & Barbara Tuel; sister Wanda Schoffstall and several nieces
and nephews.
Preceding Howard in death are his parents, wife, brother and sister-in-law
Chuck & Shirley Tuel, brother-in-law Gilbert Schoffstall.
Burial will be in Hutsonville Cemetery
