Bernard L. Helm, 88, Oblong, Illinois died Friday December 6, 2003 in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Bernard was born September 24, 1915 in Oblong, Illinois and was the son of Chriss Helm and Massie (Campbell) Helm. On August 17, 1951, he married Eloise Jones, who survives. Bernard was an oilfield worker, working as a pumper and roustabout for the McDonald Oil Compay. He retired in 1977. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church of Oblong and he loved tinkering with anything. Surviving Bernard are his wife Eloise; two sons and daughters-in-laws Myron & Becky Helm and Wesley and Linda Helm; four grandsons Aaron, Chris, Brent and Brad Helm; one brother and sister-in-law John & Mary Helm, as well as several nieces and nephews. His parents, one granddaughter Misty Helm; two brothers Glenard & Clifton Helm; and four sisters Marie Helm, Violet Fantz, Alma Correll and Cathrine Rhodes preceded him in death. Burial will be in Oblong
